Another new federal spending project was announced earlier this week by MP Cathy McLeod
The Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo representative says the 120,000 dollars going towards developing management practices on agricultural lands further entrenches ranchers as environmental stewards
McLeod sees the development of sustainable management practices as key to protecting at-risk species
The funding is a part of the ongoing Species at Risk Partnerships on Agricultural Lands (SARPAL) program and identifies the Yellow-Breasted Chat and the Lewis Woodpecker as focused species specific to the region.
Summer Jobs
The MP for Kamloops-Thompson-Cariboo had some good news for youth in the South Cariboo as the Canada Summer Jobs program will be getting additional funding this year.
More than 450,000 additional dollars will be allocated to what McLeod describes as an important program in the region
She says the funding will allow the summer hiring of 106 young Canadians from Kamloops to the South Cariboo.
The specific breakdown was not available at the time of the announcement, but McLeod says it’s a priority to ensure that all the areas of the riding will be represented in the spending of the funds.
