Stakeholder meeting to look for strategic plan on looming doctor shortages

A stakeholder meeting will take place in Quesnel next week to come with a strategic plan to deal with a looming doctor shortage in the community.

4 physicians are expected to leave this year and three more in 2016.

Debbie Strang, the Health Services Administrator for Northern Health, says the meeting will take place on Wednesday and will include physicians and some Northern Health managers as well as the City, the Cariboo Regional District, and the MLA.

We asked Strang how concerned people should be about losing these many physicians…

Strang says they should have a strategy in place fairly soon after next week’s meeting and that they have already developed a group of planners locally that are looking at this issue.

Strang says they are using the same model that has been successful in recruiting physicians for other communities within Northern Health.
