New wildfire west of tatla lake

BC Wildfire Service continues to battle a new wildfire that was discovered Sunday 20 kilometres west of Tatla Lake and 200 kilometres west of Williams Lake.

Fire Information Officer Natasha Broznitsky has this update.

“As of the morning here we’ve been able to upgrade the status to under control that means that sufficient suppression action has been taken to ensure no further spread of the fire. Initially, we were thinking it was around 6 hectares in size but a more accurate check of the fire has actually put the fire at three point hectares”.

Broznitsky says today, Monday, June 20, they have 16 firefighters as well as one piece of heavy equipment and a helicopter on site.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The wildfire 40 kilometres southwest of Lac La Hahce is currently being held with 60 firefighters on site along with one piece of heavy equipment and one helicopter.
