big day for bike riders in Williams Lake this saturday

The new Trailhead at the Tourism Discovery Centre in Williams Lake will officially open this saturday.

Mountain Bike Consortium Director Mark Savard was part of the large volunteer group who put it all together and explains the purpose and the benefit this trail will serve.

“People can roll into the Tourism Discovery Centre, take their bike out, ride up through the network, and all the way out to like Sugar Cane or anywhere that connects to the trails. It’ll be super positive for the community that we’d been needing for awhile”.

Savard said they’ve been working on the trailhead for at least four years but the actual construction of it was done over the spring.

When asked if riders could use the trail now before the official opening Savard said “People can go hit it  now. The last things just fell into place this week. We just kinda picked Saturday afternoon for the opening. We were going to have on Sunday, on Father’s Day but the feedback was almost everyone was committed so we bumped it up an evening that way we could get Adventure Shuttles to help us out with shuttles”.

City staff will be on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony that will take place Saturday afternoon at 4 at the Tourism Discovery Parking lot in Williams Lake.
