Vimy Ridge Memorial week starts April 6th in Williams Lake

April 6th to 12th Williams Lake will be marking the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge.

Since last June, two of the Organizers,  Bill Sheridan Commanding Officer of the 3-064 Rocky Mountain Cadet Corp and James Way,  Director at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 139 have been preparing for this celebrating.

Way says the week will start with a sunset ceremony at City Hall on Friday April 7th.

“We’re actually going to be taking the flags down to half mast, we’re going to changing the British Columbia Flag to the Red Ensign Flag that was flown over Vimy Ridge after the battle was won in the First World War. Then on the Sunday april 9th  there will be a parade at one o’clock in the afternoon, same parade format as Remembrance Day”.

Way said the event will end on the wednesday april 12th they’ll be replacing the flags back during another sunset ceremony to take place at 6pm.
