Spring has sprung and with it the bears starting to come out of hibernation.

Conservation Officer Sargeant Jeff Tyre goes over the reasons why some bears come into urban centres.

“Barbecues, bee hives, bird feeders, livestock, pets, compost, they’re naturally going to move into our area, our townsites, given the smells, those are the big attractions”.

Tyre reminds hikers if there are any den sites in the area that bears will be highly protective of them and sows this time of year will be coming out with their brand new babies or last years cubs and they’ll be protective of them as well and to give them as wide a berth as you can.

If you do have a problem bear in your area you’re reminded to call the Rapp Line 1-877-952-7277.
