Some Williams Lake Paramedics were busy Monday afternoon seeking the support of residents to become an essential service.

As part of a Province wide effort to be included in the Fire and Police Service Collective Bargaining Act, they were asking the public to sign their petition to help amend and include them in this Act.

Team Leader and Williams Lake Paramedic Nancy Dron was at Save on Foods yesterday with her colleagues and explained what their next step was.

“This goes to the Government if we meet the threshold for signatures they have a choice to either pass it into legislation right away or the other option is they would put it to a vote, so the public would be allowed to vote on this. This is the same procedure that we used in 2010 when we got rid of the HST.”

Dron went on to say that this kind of procedure has been proven to be successful if they can get the support that they need.

This petition signing is a Province wide endevour which needs written support from at least ten percent of all registered voters in each of BC’s 85 ridings before it can go onto the Provincial Government.
