South Cariboo Set to Host Martial Arts Performances

Local governments in the Cariboo are set to host a series of Chinese martial arts performances between August 18th and August 22nd.

The performing group travelling from China to the Cariboo consists of 18 elite martial artists from the Shaolin Epo Martial Arts School of Dengfeng City, in the People’s Republic of China.

CRD Chair Al Richmond says it took help from everyone to bring this group to the Cariboo.

“The Cariboo Regional District, our board, the District of 100 Mile, City of Williams Lake, Barkerville Heritage Trust, Wells, and Prince George, and the Fraser Fort George Regional District, are all contributing to help bring this group here.”

Richmond says the performances will feature various Shaolin Wushu martial arts techniques that include pictographic animal boxing and use of the 18 weapons developed by the Shaolin Monks over many decades.

Performances will start tomorrow at 630pm in 100 Mile House at the Martin Exeter Hall, followed by a stop in Williams Lake on Friday August 19th, Barkerville on Saturday August 20th, and Prince George on Monday August 22nd.

The CRD is hoping this visit will help build on a visit by Chinese delegates to the Cariboo earlier in the summer and help strengthen relationships with China.
