Money Now In Place For Upgrade At Ranger Park In Quesnel

Phase one of the Barlow Creek ball field upgrade is now fully funded.

It is also the first step towards relocating slo-pitch in Quesnel.

The North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee last night unanimously voted in favour of coming up with the remaining $37,750.

The City will pay for 50 thousand dollars of the bill out of it’s gas tax money and 60 thousand will come from the Northern Development Initiative Trust.

Phase one will see a new fence and some netting at diamond number one and then a new backstop, dugout and infield in the two back diamonds.

Phase two would see new fences at those diamonds as well.

CRD Director John Massier noted that the cost of phase one could come down as some of the netting and lumber may be donated.

Quesnel Mayor Bob Simpson is anxious to get started on phase 2.

That will cost around 147 thousand dollars.

He says he would like to see a report from staff in the fall so they are in position to apply for NDI funding.

Simpson says it would be nice to have slo-pitch moved to Barlow Creek in time for next season.
