Preliminary results in from NStQ Referendum

The NSTQ Treaty Group announced the unofficial results of the February 11th Agreement-in Principle Treaty(AIP) Referendum.

The results are as follows:

  • Canim Lake Band (458 eligible voters): YES 125 NO 84
  • Soda Creek Band (336 eligible voters): YES 90 NO 48
  • Canoe Creek/Dog Creek Band (582 eligible voters): YES 113 NO 72

“As Chief of the SXFN, I welcome the positive results of our AIP vote and congratulate Stswecem’c Xgattem membership for voting. We have chosen to continue to the final stage of negotiation in the BC Treaty process. With this mandate, SXFN will return to the table with greater determination to negotiate a final agreement that will see more of our traditional SXFN territory returned,” said Chief Patrick Harry of Canoe Creek and Dog Creek Band.

A full revote for all Williams Lake Indian Band voters has been scheduled to take place on March 15.

The vote was suspended according to a press due to the disruptive illegal actions of a small group of protesters predominantly comprised of non-WLIB community members.
