Bouchie Lake Resident Asks for Delay on Arena Project

A resident of Bouchie Lake is calling on the Cariboo Regional District (CRD) to halt Quesnel’s Arena Replacement Project.

Michael Furminger spoke before the Board Wednesday morning.

He maintains public consultation on the project has been lacking.

“The debate that has occurred on the project so far has been conducted on one basis that the public has been made aware, I don’t know over the last 8 weeks but some of it as recent as the last 10 days.”

Furminger says the delay in the project should be long enough to enable the public to learn of the new basis of the project and have a chance to debate that.

He pointed to the rising cost of the project and the City of Quesnel’s population having dropped by 600 persons last year as to some of the main reasons he believes that the project needs to be reconsidered.

The North Cariboo Joint Planning Committee announced last month the hiring of a general contractor for the new 1,600 seat arena.

The CRD were to vote if they would endorse the recommendation later in the afternoon.
