Fees for Independent School Students to Ride District Buses Going Up

The Board of Education for School District 27 will be increasing the transportation fee rate for Independent School Ridership.

Chair Tanya Guenther says the rate has remained unchanged since the 2007-2008 school year.

“We don’t have a large number of students who are independent school students accessing this service but any of the revenue that’s generated will be credited towards our District’s administrative savings plan and of course will contribute towards the cost of our transportation budget.”

The District spends approximately four million dollars to transport close to 2,900 students each year.

The $6.00 increase per month will bring up the rate for independent school students who ride District buses to $36.00 and will take effect at the start of the 2016-2017 school year.

The increase will make the rate equal to that of the City of Williams Lake monthly student transit pass.
